“Never before in history has innovation offered promise of so much to so many in so short a time.” -Bill Gates

Technology is becoming a greater part of our everyday life. Technology is rapidly developing, and is playing a larger role in the world market. Some technology we take for granted. Things we might take for granted include our microwave, the fridge, or a coffee maker. We often take for granted the hours of meticulous designing that goes into making a technological object. For example the design of a microwave.

There is work put into the electrical design of a microwave, and the mechanical design as well as the overall appearance of the microwave. But let’s go even more basic. Most microwaves have hinges on the left, so that they open to the right. Most of the human population is right handed, so having a microwave that opens to the right means we can use our dominant hand to lift our food out of the microwave. However we never stop and think about this design of the microwave, we take it for granted.

There are many developing products, and companies playing larger roles in the world market. Hand held devices are becoming more common, and society, as a whole, relies heavily on computers. One of my favourite companies of the 21st century is Apple. I love their products, I appreciate their design, but they are pricy. I prefer the Mac Desktops over the PC desktops. I use apple products such as the Ipod, and Ipad frequently mainly for enjoyment, and communication.

There are some awesome apps out their. I love the games that have been developed. Some of my favourites include temple run, Subway Surfer, 4 pics one word, ANGRY BIRDS!, and fruit ninja. There is often speculation of new apple products that may be released in the future. Some of these include the

apple wrist watch

Iphone 6

I can’t wait to see what apple comes up with next. Sir Jonathan Ives has done an excellent job designing and innovating new products for apple.

In the future I’d love to see technological advancements that provide technology like what was shown in the movie Avatar. I think that would be so cool 🙂

Technology is rapidly advancing. It is important however, that the human race doesn’t become so dependent on technology that we loose our ability to store information and knowledge.

Technology can be used for good or for evil, for advancements or set backs. I will conclude this blog entry with a quote from Albert Einstien:

“It Has Become Appallingly Obvious That Our Technology Has Exceeded Our Humanity”

Reflection: Skills

I recently did a skills presentation in class. My skill was music. It was very easy for me to think of my skills, many of my skills have been developed out of interest and activities I participate in outside of school. I decided to show music as a skill because I think music is an interactive and entertaining skill to watch. It is also one of the skills I would be most comfortable  presenting. Planning my presentation was not hard, especially after watching my teachers “example” presentation.

I considered the following things when planning my presentation

Order of presentation

           – Introduce myself

           – Talk about myself

           – Talk about my skill

           – Present my skill

            -What should it look like?

            -What details will it contain?

           – What will you present

            -How will you present it

-What will I tell the class

The challenge in the presentation, for me, was talking about myself. I am definitely a reserved person, and I don’t like telling people I hardly know. I was very comfortable presenting my skill in front of everyone. I am better at presenting a formal presentation or giving a formal speech. I think I have to work on remaining calm throughout the powerpoint presentation, this would improve the overall presentation. I worked on my musical skills and I most definitely think this is transferrable to a job such as music teaching or playing professionally. I also worked on speaking to groups, I think this is helpful for any job where you have to present to your co-workers. I have benefitted from this experience, I have learned how to prepare for a presentation, refine a skill within a short period of time, and improved my presentation speaking skills.

I saw many fantastic skills presentations. I would love to be able to do the yoyo like one of my classmates. I would also like to be able to have the basketball/soccer skills as one of my other classmates. I will continue to pursue music, but I don’t think I will make it a career. I would also like to improve my baking skills.

I fully enjoyed presenting and sharing my skill, I also enjoyed watching other peoples skills. 🙂

“The time to relax is the time when you don’t have time for it”- Sydney Jay Harris

Stress is a part of a person’s daily life. Sometimes it is the small things in life that stress us out most. “Am I going to be late again?” “what if..?” “oh no! I forgot…” These are thoughts that go through our heads each day. Somethings in life are things we do not have control over, so why should we spend our time worrying about these things when we could do other things that are much more productive and rewarding? As Charlie Chaplin, a British film actor once said, “Nothing is permanent in this wicked world- not even our troubles.”

It is often a good idea to spend some time relaxing each day, even if it is only for a few minutes. Some things I like to do to relax include:

Exercise: Running, Pilates

I enjoy running because it is a good form of cardiovascular exercise, it feels very rewarding after, and it allows for you to think, reflect, and consider with out the distractions of every day life. I enjoy pilates because you feel great afterwards, and it is a good way to get in shape 🙂

Music: listen and play

I love to listen to music, especially when I try to fall asleep. Listening provides a sense of freedom to many people, and allows us to manipulate our mood. I also enjoy playing music, it is a great way to learn, and improve a skill. I find it very rewarding. Often when you put a lot of practice into a skill you are passionate about you get wonderful results.

Projects: start something new

I love starting new projects when I try to relax. Some of my favourite things to do include: baking, painting and drawing. I enjoy all of these activities because they are productive. Baking to me is a simple way of creating, and when you are done creating you have something you can share with others. For example: a cake. By mixing a few simple ingredients (flour, eggs, sugar, and milk) we can create a cake. When the cake is done we can decorate it. When the cake has been decorated it is a work of art that can be shared, and other people can enjoy it. I love doing art as well. I feel that with art it’s impossible to mess up. You don not always get the desired result but there is truly no wrong expression, or wrong representation of something through art. It is up to the artist to create.

Being unproductive: browsing the internet, sleeping

In contrast to being productive, I also like to be highly unproductive. I think that is one of the greatest forms of relaxation: doing nothing. I can waste hours on a computer browsing the internet. I also love to sleep. There is a place between sleeping and being awake. It’s that time when you are not quite fully aware of your surroundings and you are drifting in and out of dreams. It is that time when it is hardest to wake up. It’s the time when your mind is saying you must get up and have a productive day, but your body feels so tired and wants you to stay in bed. I love that feeling. I could lay in bed all day, however I can’t because I have things to do, however every now and then I enjoy taking a nap. A nap is a chance to recharge.

I think relaxing is a very important part of someones life. I try to get exercise every day and I always have some form of music in my daily routine. Starting projects is usually something I do in my spare time during the weekend, but not during the week due to a busy schedule. As far as being unproductive, I don’t schedule times, but at least once in a day I spend 10-15 minutes doing nothing and not worrying about the small things.

Everyone has their own form of relaxation, and everyone has their own recommendations on how to relax. My recommendation is to find something you get pure enjoyment out of, and find time to do it every day.

“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light”-Helen Keller

I have grown apart from many friends over the past few years, however they are still very important to me. Some of these people include Courtney, Annette, Britney, Halee, Laney, Paige and Tori. They are all still very good friends of mine, but we aren’t as close as we used to be. Britney, Halee, Laney, Paige and I used to all be really good friends. When I switched schools in grade 9 we didn’t try as hard as we could have, to keep in contact. Courtney and Annette are friends I still talk to, but it isn’t the same. The more we got to know each other the more we realized how little we had in common. I think it is is really neat though how I can still hang out with these people and have a really good time, even if we don’t talk as often.

Tori and I chat quite a bit still and we always offer one and other advice. The main reason why I think friends grow apart is because we grow as people, and as we grow we tend to lean in different directions. Say we use the analogy of a tree. We all come from the same seed, but as the tree grows the branches grow apart. As the branches grow apart the distance from one end of the tree to another becomes greater, more branches are formed, but all the branches remain connected to the trunk.

Tree-of-Life   friends-girl-separate-with-comma-Favim.com-221515

Friends will grow, and as we grow we grow apart. We will also get to know more people and make new friends. However we friends still always share the some awesome memories. The friends I have grown apart from are people I do not spend time with as often as I used to, but I have also made many new friends. Another main reason why I think friends grow apart is because of a certain event, or argument. I definitely have friends who have lost  their other friends due to an argument. It is important to keep in mind that everything happens for a reason. I don’t regret growing apart from these people, but I would still jump at the opportunity to rebuild our friendships.

Sometimes we have a false idea of who are friends are and who are friends aren’t. It sometimes takes a few eye openers to find out which friends are  your real friends. Oprah Winfrey is quoted saying, “Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.” It is sometimes hard to figure out who you trust. I know I am definitely really slow at letting people close to me. Trust is one of the most fragile things in a persons life. I feel it is hard to build trust, but so easy to break it, almost like a paper thin piece of glass.

I know none of my friendships have been perfect, but I still value friendship with high regards. I think friendship is a key component to life the same way oxygen is a key component to air. So I will finish this blog entry with a quote for you to consider, from Buddha. He said “An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but a evil friend will wound your mind.”

“Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.”-Bruce Lee

Hi, my name is Kian. The first question for this blog entry was who are you? That is a very good question, and I don’t exactly know the answer. That’s a question I ask myself everyday. The easy answer to that question is I am a sister, a daughter, a fifteen year old girl, a student, a friend, and someone who tries to always be happy. I think the more important question is who do you want to be? I want to be the best sister, a wonderful daughter, an awesome friend, someone who is helpful, someone who is kind, someone who is trustworthy, someone who makes others happy and someone who is reliable. I don’t know if I am that person but that is the kind of person I strive to be.

What makes me unique is everyone else, this is because I am no one but myself, I am not exactly the same as anyone else out there. This applies to everyone and is something we should all remember. We can only be the best versions of ourselves. I am interested in food, music, sports, school, my friends and my family. I definitely haven’t taken any of my skills to a level of mastery, but somethings I’m alright at are: Music (piano, violin, flute) soccer, and cross country skiing.

Things I like include: chocolate, pizza, soccer, music, spending time with people who mean a lot to me, and school. Some one who I really admire is Nick Vujicic.

I came across a video of him only a few days ago. He is a man with no limbs but he is probably one of the happiest people in the world. This is his video link if you haven’t seen it.

I googled “questions to ask yourself” and here are some questions that came up. I’m going to answer them as honestly as I can, and hopefully by doing so I learn a bit about myself 🙂 feel free to ask yourself these questions!

“The best part of life is when your family becomes your friends and your friends become your family”

elegant WA family friends copy

I am very lucky, I have many friends, and a wonderful family. Some friends come into your life and leave, others come into your life and are there to stay. My friends at school are definitely important to me. I have some very special friends in particular. Xiana and Jacob are some friends I share some of my best memories with. I have known them for as long as I can remember. We have been everywhere together, from Slovenia, Europe to our back yard.

They are like my other two siblings. Over the past year we have seen each other. They used to live in Prince George, but they moved to the lower mainland. We don’t see them nearly as much as we used to, but they will always be the ones who I share some of the craziest memories with. Another person who is very close to me is my sister. She is the most annoying person ever, and we drive each other crazy

However, she is probably the person I trust most, and she is definitely the one who knows everything about me. When we get a long, which is quite often , we have a blast. We make great shopping buddies, we always share our clothes and make up, and I know she will always be there for me. So the next person I’m going to talk about is this certain friend who I really like. I wont mention his name though 🙂 I met him almost 2 years ago. We do some pretty crazy stuff together but it is definitely fun. We have some of the weirdest and most random conversations, but  we also have really deep conversations about changing the world, the importance or lack of importance of money in a persons life versus happiness, and the future. I’d say we are pretty good friends. My parents are of course a huge part of my life, my mom is probably the nicest person I know. I’m not just saying that so she’ll buy me chocolate, but because she truly is. It’s all the small things she does that add up. She always tells me try to make the room a better place before you leave. She does this all the time. It might be as small as putting a few things away or completely changing the mood of the people in the room. I think that is a great thing to keep in the back of your mind as you go through life. Imagine how much better the world would be if everyone who was born said I want to die knowing a made this world a better place. It’s not to the same scale as what my mom tells me but its the same idea. My dad is also a big part of my life. He is a pretty smart guy, not book smart but logic smart. He always asks me questions that make me think. He is always looking out for me trying to make sure I get to bed early, and get to school on time, and helping me succeed in my activities.  There is one last person who has made a HUGE impact on my life over the past 2-3 years. It is my violin teacher. His name is Gordon Lucas. He is an incredible individual with a huge amount of knowledge. He has increased my understanding of music and the violin as well as many other things. He has changed the way I think. No one has ever challenged me mentally the way he has. He has made me improve as a person and a musician in so many ways. It is hard to describe, usually a teacher and a student exchange ideas based on one subject, the subject being taught by the teacher. However gordon has touched on so many topics. I have gained so much insight thanks to him. Other friends that are really close to me include: Brianna, Simron, Tori, Britney, Halee, and Laney. So that’s my first blog post about people who are important to me and their impact on my life. I hope I’ve been as big of a part of their life as they have been in mine 🙂
